Thoughtful Tuesday

After years of living so far away from my family, going through a divorce and living single for a long time, I used to wonder how long it would take for someone to discover that something tragic had happened to me. I speak to my Mother by phone once or twice a week, my sister once or twice a week. My friends.... some weekly.....some every month or so.....some not for several months at a time.  However, my best friend and I do speak daily and have for some time now. She lives locally and is listed as my local emergency contact. I am so thankful for these relationships. I am sure that it would not be too long before my mother & sister would get on a flight to Texas. But what if I didn't have them ? What if I didn't have a "best" friend ? Nobody would ever want to believe that this could happen to them, but this story was very intriguing.

This article here is so very thought provoking. I would read the article before you watch the trailer below.

I read that article a couple of days ago. I was completely intrigued by it as well. It was a very unfortunate story. From my understanding she had a lively social life but I guess she wasn't close enough to any one person to check up on her. It's all really strange. Also never figured out why her apartment waited 3 years to evict her though. I really wonder how she died...

The Apt thing didn't make sense to me either. I actually know of a guy who had a horrific car accident after having an argument with his girlfriend and leaving her Apt late at night. It was his bar buddies who missed him after a few weeks, (the girlfriend thought he was blowing her off)called the company they remembered him saying he worked for & they had just found out that he had been in ICU for 2 weeks !

This story is so sad. It is a reminder of how we take for granted our relationships with others and can be so disconnected. I have a few friends who are sort of loners that I check on regularly for this reason....

I work in HR and once a man's sister called me to ask me if he had been to work since she hadn't heard from him in 2 days. That was not normal because they talked every day. I found out that he had not been to work. His manager and another co-worker went to his house with police. They found him dead. If his sister was not thoughtful who knows what could have happened....

Wow. You are right. Glad you check on your friends.Imagine if he had no sister, how long before people actually show up looking for you ? I am curious since you are in HR do you guys have a policy. If the sister had not called, how many days of no call/no show before you contact the emergency contact ?

Oh & thanks for stopping by my blog & commenting !

Amazing how Joyce's death went unnoticed for three years. I just cannot seem to grasp such tragedy which, it appears, transpired long before she actually died.

For a woman with such a promising life and future it doesn't seem fathomable. I wonder what happened before she isolated herself that set the stage? Besides domestic violence, apparently.

Sounds as if she died from a broken heart of some sort. Sure hope to catch Carol Morley's film.

@KRock I too wondered about allowing so much time to collect due rent payments.

It's just show how connected, yet disconnected we really are sometimes in this world. We move in and out of lives, making assumptions and never knowing the real stories. This could happen to so many people, they way we live these days. I like the fact that the filmmaker was intrigued enough to ask questions and try to put things together. It should be interesting to watch.

I read the article the other day and was totally intrigued.

Not only did she not get evicted her TV was still on flickering as she say there dead. The utilities didn't get cut off? It's almost as if the TV stayed on to keep her company until she was found.

It was such a sad story.

@Cyn

This story was so upsetting to me. I talk to my people daily, sometimes twice a day.

This is why I get worried when I haven't spoken to some of my single girlfriends in a couple of weeks. I will track them down and stalk them until I hear from them!!
